Children are often major casualties of the separation process. They have to deal with emotions and feelings that they find hard to understand or put into words. They may have divided loyalties, wanting to please both parents, often leaving parents feeling confused by conflicting stories.
A child consultant will work alongside a mediation, helping a child talk about what is important to them, without worrying about retribution and importantly without causing hurt to either parent.
It is carried out in a safe and confidential environment - at the end of the process a parent may receive feedback from the consultant, but a child's confidences are never broken without their express consent.
Our child consultations are specialist family lawyers, and have been trained in this area by Resolution. However, they are not psychologists or counsellors - they are simply a listening ear and a voice for a child.
